Want to be a part of things, but lost on where to start? Nodd has grown a lot over the years, so here's a rundown on all the ways you can participate.
Website
The website comes in two parts - the main site, and the Arcanet.
Main Site
This is where you are now. It's worth reading most of what's here - getting an idea of the main species, factions, and basic mechanics of the world will be important.
You can also access Noddules here, which are interactive stories that allow you to explore the world in more depth.
The Arcanet
You can access the Arcanet by clicking the glowy button on the header above. The Arcanet is a wiki you can use to read about the lore - it's a mostly-exhaustive reference for everything in Nodd. If you're new, a good place to start is the Main Page - some useful categories are listed there. You can also search for specific terms as you need.
SubscribeStar
You can support the project and earn various rewards by subscribing. More info on rewards can be found on the SubscribeStar page.
FurAffinity
Art gets posted to FurAffinity, but this is not a reliable place for announcements - you'll need to join the Discord Server for those.
Discord Server
There's a Discord server for the City of Nodd community. It is strictly adults-only, and features extreme content.
On the server, there's the option to chat, RP, share art, coordinate community events, and more. Please note that it's not strictly an RP server. However, it is a Nodd-themed server, so we ask that you have an interest in the setting, and a willingness to engage in the lore and community. Please follow the rules and respect the mods.
Additionally, the server currently features official monthly events, which are opportunities to participate in games and win prizes.
Monthly Discord Events
At least one event is hosted monthly, each of which involves different games and prizes. The games in question may be cooperative or competitive with other contestants, or they may be solo; often the audience will be able to participate in some way as well. The prizes will generally involve free art, adopts, or other Nodd-related goodies. The event, game and outcome will determine the prize you receive.
All the info you need will be posted to #news, and the events will take place exclusively on the server. Please also note that you must have access to the chat portion of the server (you cannot be a @Lurker), or you won’t be able to participate.
Raffles
Each event will involve one or more raffles, which will determine the contestants for the event’s game(s).
There will be a form to sign up for the raffle - you are allowed one entry by default. Please note that you must sign up during the event even if you're a subscriber or competition winner, or you won't be added to the raffle.
Games
Ultimately, “game” simply refers to whatever the raffle winners will be subjected to during the event. This may be anything - it may be competitive between contestants, with only the winner being given the grand prize; or it may be cooperative, with the grand prize being attainable only through collaboration. Some games will not need to be won, but will instead simply be a way to determine and influence the nature of the prize.
The nature of an event’s game will be made known at the beginning of the event, so you know what you’re getting yourself into before you sign up for the raffle. You must be present for the game when it takes place if you intend to participate - we can’t necessarily put things on hold to wait for you, so please only sign up if you’ll be around. Regardless of whether the game is competitive in nature or not, courtesy towards others involved is required. You will not be allowed to participate if you are aggressive, impatient, inappropriate, or problematic in any way.
Earning & Spending Tickets
Anyone may enter any raffle as though they have 1 ticket. You can earn additional tickets by being a subscriber (higher tiers earn more, up to 5), and by winning various Competitions throughout the month leading up to the event. There may be other ways to earn them as well, such as during events.
Extra tickets earned can be spent whenever you like, and are gone once they're spent. Tickets from your subscription will boost every raffle you sign up for as long as you're a subscriber; they don't disappear when spent.
You don't have to spend your tickets all at once - you can specify during the drawing how many you'd like to enter into the raffle.
Additionally, you now have the option of spending them at Trumble's Ticket Emporium, rather than using them in the raffle.
We track any extra tickets earned; they can be found here.
Please note that most people are not listed - we are adding people as they earn extra tickets to track. So please don't worry if you don't see yourself here. Additionally, subscription status is not updated automatically - we will update prior to each raffle drawing.
Prizes
Prizes may be in the form of free art (usually themed to the event), themed adoptables, cameo opportunities in upcoming Noddules or games, or something else relating to Nodd. Occasionally, mailed prizes such as stickers, prints, or other items may be involved. Generally, you will have the option to instead receive a voucher for a free adoptable if you’re not interested in the prize won. The nature of the prizes will be revealed at the beginning of the event.
When receiving a free art prize, please understand this is not a commission, and you aren’t entitled to it in any way. If you prove to be a pain, I reserve the right to retract the offer and/or give it to someone else instead.
Vouchers
Occasionally, vouchers for various shops can be earned - these will allow you to acquire an adoptable, YCH, or commission free of charge, depending on the specific shop and what it offers. In all cases, this only covers the basic options offered - if you'd like more costly options or add-ons, these will be at your expense.
Any vouchers received are not something that can be traded or sold, and must be redeemed within a year.
As with prizes, I reserve the right to retract the voucher if you're a pain to work with.
VIP Tickets
It is possible to earn a VIP (Very Indulgent Participant) Ticket as a prize, or to purchase one from Trumble's Ticket Emporium. These guarantee a raffle win of your choice.
Monthly Competitions
Each month there will be a set of Competitions - each of these is a way to earn extra tickets. There are currently two - Character Spotlight and Spireside Tales.
Character Spotlight
Each month we will start a new thread in #character-spotlight where you will be able to post your character. The character may be an insider or outsider, sapient or beast - but must be Nodd-related in some way.
You may post up to 4 images of the entered character per round. This art must belong to you, whether it is your own work, commissioned, or given to you as a gift. You will also be asked to provide a brief textual introduction to give us an idea of the character’s personality and role in Nodd.
You may only win once per character, but may enter them in as many rounds as you like until they win. And there will be only one winner decided per round - but you may enter/win with any number of unique characters.
No artwork done by Oddbird, though characters can be based off of official adopts - as long as the art entered is not the official art. Artwork done on official templates is welcome, too, as long as you've added your own touch.
You will be able to post and/or vote on characters while the thread is open, using the :noddheart: reaction. You may vote on as many characters as you like. The thread will be open to submit until the voting window, which will run for 24 hours - the specific time window will be announced at the start of the round.
When it closes, all votes will be tallied, and the winner will win that month's Character Spotlight. Their character will be posted to #news, and they will receive 10 extra raffle entries for any events within the current month.
Spireside Tales
Each month we will start a new thread in #spireside-tales (coming soon) where you will be able to enter a short story via an attached text file, or an RP scene via a link to the starting post, with a synopsis and mention of all participants - only completed scenes are welcome, and only those done publicly on the Nodd server. You must get permission from all participants to enter. Whether story or RP, all entries must be Nodd-related.
You may only win once per story/scene, but may enter it in as many rounds as you like until they win. And there will be only one winner decided per round - but you may enter/win with any number of unique stories/scenes.
You will be able to post and/or vote on characters while the thread is open, using the :noddheart: reaction. You may vote on as many characters as you like. The thread will be open to submit until the voting window, which will run for 24 hours - the specific time window will be announced at the start of the round.
When it closes, all votes will be tallied, and the winner will win that month's Spireside Tales competition. A link to the scene will be posted to news, and ALL participants of the scene will receive 10 extra raffle entries for any events within the current month.
Faction Standings
On the first day of each month we will make a post in #news which you'll be able to react to with a faction crest of your choice. The faction with the most votes will be the leading faction for that month. This will determine the themes of YCHs, adopts, and commissions offered, and may influence other things as well. The current faction standings can be found in Nodd's FA profile.
Weather & Seasons
The weather changes weekly, and the current weather can be found on Nodd's homepage and on Nodd's FA profile. The current weather will determine the background of any art made during that time - this is optionally true for commissions. The current season will have similar influences.
Shops
Nodd features a number of "shops", which are thematic, in-character storefronts for YCHs, adopts, commissions, and more.
A catalog of all current shops will be coming soon - until then, a list can be found on Nodd's FA page.
Lucky Sniff Tickets
When you purchase something from one of the shops, you'll receive a Lucky Sniff Ticket for free. This is a digital scratch-off ticket with an opportunity to earn extra raffle tickets or other prizes. You'll get to choose three of the nine spaces, and I will randomize the results of each to determine your prize.
Currently there's only one Lucky Sniff Ticket to choose from, but eventually there will be a variety, each with different possible prizes. These are not purchasable directly, but may also be earned as event prizes and by other means.
Ego File
An Ego File is essentially a character sheet showcasing your character in Nodd. You can add character art as well as any adoptables or collectibles you've earned. You don't need to use official art - you're welcome to add your own as well.
The ego file template recently got an update, so be sure you have the most recent version.
Collectibles & Badges
Collectibles are digital souvenirs you can find in Noddules, during events, and more - these are primarily for adding to your character's inventory in their Ego File.
New collectibles released after 2024 feature a secret 6-digit code only viewable in the full-res version. You can use these to unlock badges for your Ego File via the Collector's Kiosk.
Collector's Kiosk
The Collector's Kiosk is a small Noddule that exists purely to turn in your collectibles, complete collections, and earn badges. You can download these badges and add them to your Ego File.
While it's not hard to cheat using the Collector's Kiosk, posting an ego file with a badge you haven't unlocked may lead to suspension from the server, so please don't try.
